I Suck at Blogging

There are two reasons why I suck at blogging: time & internet access. Let’s address the latter. On Lookout Mountain, GA, we are dependent upon Trenton Telephone. It is a mom & pop operation totally unaware of modern communication technology. In fact, most people around here will not have a land-line and use cell phones in order to not give TT another penny. They do not deserve it!

Time: never enough! Not much more to say; it slips away like warm creme brule down your throat. Wonderful! Delicious! Where’d it go? It’s gone! Oh, well…

And just like that, months have slipped by. The good news: it’s finally Spring! The icy rain has stopped and the last frost was almost negligible, unlike last year’s Killer Frost.

It would be great if the art buyers come out of their winter hibernation. Field reports from various art fairs are not encouraging. The wealthy feel poor and the poor feel scared. Yet I hear reports from other parts of the world and I wonder how truly poor people survive. There are bread lines in Egypt for 8-cent bread. The people in line make $2. per day, if they have a government job. Worrying about selling art seems so petty. Yet Egypt has artistic treasures beyond belief. There were centuries, no — millenniums when Egyptians produced enough food to stockpile for the non-growing season, enough food to export, and enough time to build monuments that still stand today. Are we really devolving? Art and culture are not petty but continue along with all other human activities that leave a record of who we are. I am grateful for all I have and will keep fear at bay. I will not make room for fear. I will not make room for doubt. I will make room for love and compassion.

Check back in a few months for the next entry…J.
